Reduce Exposure to Toxins

We live in a toxic world and many of the toxins we are exposed to on a daily basis occupy our homes. Food, water, medication, personal care products, household cleaning products, pesticides, building materials, EMFs and mold are some of the primary sources. Through our constant exposure, toxins tend to build up in the body, causing and contributing to many illnesses and diseases including autoimmune diseases, cancer, infertility, birth defects, Parkinson’s Disease, autism, obesity, allergies and depression, among others. Furthermore, a buildup of toxins in the body typically results in a weakened immune system.

The removal of toxins from your environment is the first and most important step of detoxification. The human body is amazing and will naturally move toward healing if given the chance. However, our bodies are almost never sheltered from toxins, even for a brief period. Although the modern world has made it impossible to completely avoid toxins, there are many simple techniques we can implement to reduce our daily exposure and make significant improvements to our health. Simply put, it’s not about perfection; it’s about minimizing your overall toxic load and giving your body a chance to heal.

Sources of Toxins

Food

One of the largest sources of toxins comes from the food we eat each day in the form of artificial ingredients, processed foods, GMOs and synthetic pesticides like Glyphosate. In a nutshell, the best way to reduce toxin exposure from food is to eat organic whole foods. While this lifestyle change can be expensive, we see it as an investment in your health. That being said, we will also offer many tips on ways to mitigate costs and prioritize your spending. We also offer some ideas so you can opt for alternative food products and simplify meal preparation to make the process of preparing nutritious meals for your family using organic, whole food ingredients less time-consuming. It really doesn’t have to take a lot of time, and some organization and planning goes a long way.

Water

Our tap water, whether Municipally Treated or Private Well Water, contains hundreds of contaminants which may include chlorine, Glyphosate and other pesticides, fluoride, pharmaceutical medications, heavy metals and disinfection byproducts. According to the Environment Working Group (EWG), the current Government standards concerning permissible contaminant limits are based on outdated studies. Furthermore, there are no Government standards for certain contaminants. It is also crucial to note many municipal water supplies have contaminants which exceed the EWG’s health guidelines that were formulated based on the most up to date, independent scientific studies.

These contaminants accumulate in the body over time and contribute to many illnesses such as cancer, brain damage, nervous system problems, fertility problems and hormone disruption.

One way to source cleaner, purer water is to purchase bottled spring water. However, downsides to this include the amount of waste produced by bottles and the leaching of harmful chemicals from the plastics into the water, including BPAs, which contribute to adverse health conditions. Adding to that, having to constantly buy water is inconvenient and expensive over time.

The best way to purify your water is by using an at home filtration system. With so many options available on the market, it is important to find a purification system that eliminates most traces of contaminants in your water supply while also being practical for your needs. Fortunately, more and more quality options have entered the market in recent years. We can give you practice advice and guidance in terms of choosing a water filtration system suitable to your individual needs.

Options for at home water purification include: Whole House / Faucet / Under Counter / Counter Top / Pitchers

Personal Care Products

Your skin is your largest organ, and about 70% of what you apply over your skin is absorbed into your body. As such, it is very important to use clean personal care products. Unfortunately, the USA has low standards regarding using chemicals in personal care products compared to other countries, and their laws have remained unchanged since 1938. For instance, only 30 ingredients are banned from personal care products in the US, while the European Union bans 1,400.

We have researched and used many clean personal care products over the years and can help you swap conventional products with a comparable non-toxic alternative.

Household Products

The air quality inside your house is often more polluted than outside. The main reason for this is the use of toxic cleaning products, pesticides, mold and tobacco smoke.

Chemical household cleaning products release Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) into the air, even when properly sealed. Think of when you walk down the cleaning product isle at the supermarket. You can smell the cleaning products despite them being sealed.

There are many non-toxic and highly effective cleaning products available which are great substitutes for conventional, toxic cleaners. We have tried quite a few products over the years and can help you swap toxic cleaning products with an effective non-toxic alternative.
